NEW YORK, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Singer Jennifer Hudson, who gained popularity on the U.S. TV series "American Idol," has signed with Arista Records to record her debut album.
Having already taken to the big screen with a role in the film "Dreamgirls," Hudson is set to launch her musical career by signing with Arista and will take to the studio next year to record her first album, a news release from the label said.
"Jennifer is a vocal wonder, a tremendously gifted artist," Arista founder Clive Davis said. "Her extraordinary voice gives her a signature sound and distinguishes her from every singer on the horizon today. Jennifer is a very exciting new addition to the Arista family."
The label has a history of producing successful female singers such as Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin.
"Clive Davis is a legend and I feel more than honored to be associated with him," Hudson said of her decision.
