MTV finally allowed to air in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- MTV has arrived in Pakistan as the country's fourth music television channel after Indus Music, The Muzik and ARY Music.

The channel comes to Pakistan a decade after Nawaz Sharif, the Prime Minister at the time, shunned the "jeans, jacket and pop culture" of American-influenced rock bands, reported the Times of London.

The U.S. network began broadcasting in Pakistan this week after signing a licensing agreement with Indus Media Group, one of the local music channels.

"The look and feel would be fresh, locally relevant and international," said Bill Roedy, the president of MTV Networks International.
