Cancer claims BBC newsman Nick Clark

LONDON, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- BBC radio announcer Nick Clark has died of cancer in London at age 58.

The longtime host of "The World at One" on Radio 4 had been diagnosed nearly a year ago and soldiered on by returning to work briefly after undergoing chemotherapy and having a leg amputated.

His colleagues called him a consummate radio pro who understood a wide range of complex subjects and never stumbled or struggled to find the right words on the air.

The Daily Mail described him Thursday as "one of the BBC's discreet jewels."

Clark is survived by his wife, Barbara Want, their twin sons, and twins from a previous marriage.
