LONDON, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Despite declining ratings and mixed reviews in Britain, "Robin Hood" has been picked up by the BBC for a second season.
The freshman drama, which lost more than 1 million viewers after its pilot episode aired, has received an order from the British TV network for a 13-episode sophomore season, the BBC said.
"'Robin Hood' has been a big hit with family audiences, playing in a tough slot on the most competitive night of the week," said BBC1 head Peter Fincham. "I'm thrilled that we have a new series to look forward to next year."
Fincham's comments were echoed by fellow BBC executive Jane Tranter, who said the Dominic Minghella-scripted series has benefited from its young cast -- including Jonas Armstrong as the legendary title character.
"The cast have engaged and delighted a whole new generation with this fresh and modern retelling of Robin Hood," Tranter told the BBC. "Keith Allen's captivating portrayal of the menacing Sheriff (of Nottingham), coupled with the great performances from our young cast headed up by Jonas Armstrong, equals compelling drama."
