NME's cool list's strong female presence

LONDON, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Singer Beth Ditto of the U.S. punk band Gossip is the first woman to come in at No. 1 in NME Magazine's annual Cool List.

Female artists have more representation on the Cool List then ever before, even though the No. 2 spot goes to Faris Rotter of the Horrors, Lily Allen comes back to take third place, reported The BBC on Wednesday.

Jarvis Cocker returns to the list in fourth place and Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs comes in next at No. 5.

Kieren Webster of The View lands the No. 6 spot on the list this year while The Long Blondes' Kate Jackson comes in at No. 7.

Gerrard Way from My Chemical Romance takes the No. 8 spot, followed by Radiohead's Thom York at No. 8 and Lovefoxxx from the band CSS at No. 10.

Lovefoxx said she feels coolest "When I get drunk and then I feel really cool," reported NME Magazine.

NME Editor Conor McNicholas said: "This year's Cool List is a testament to the raft of hugely talented women who have taken hold of the music scene in 2006. From Beth to Lily to Karen, they've brought new energy to a scene dominated by men."
