White Stripes songs head up London ballet

LONDON, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Several songs from the U.S. rock band, the White Stripes, are being reinterpreted as part of a London ballet that had its debut Friday.

Songs created by the sibling rockers Jack and Meg White, and adapted by composer Joby Talbot, are being used in "Chroma" at the Royal Opera House ballet in London, the BBC reported.

Talbot, whose covers of the duo's songs are featured on his "Aluminum" album, said the unusual blend of media is not merely a stunt -- and has the full support of both Jack and Meg White.

"I met Jack and he was incredibly nice about it," said Talbot. "He said he and Meg both loved it."

The composer previously worked with the Irish pop band, The Divine Comedy.

The ballet is scheduled to run on the same Royal Ballet bill as "The Four Temperaments" and "Danse a Grande Vitesse" through Nov. 29.
