TORONTO, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- When the second season of "The Next Great Prime Minister" begins next spring, comedian Rick Mercer will serve as the Canadian TV series' new host.
The series tries to find the next great Canadian leader through a panel of former prime ministers. Network executives said Mercer adds an entertaining twist to the program, said the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.
"This hunt for our future leader will engage our youth while providing our audiences with an early glimpse at the political leaders of tomorrow," CBC Television executive Kirstine Layfield said. "And having Rick Mercer as host guarantees the whole process will be engaging, provocative and entertaining."
The addition of Mercer to the series, which focuses on contestants' ideas about running the nation, is not a major change for the comedian.
Mercer often interviewed Canadian politicians on his talk show, "The Rick Mercer Show."
