Colombia: Shakira returns home to rock

BARRANQUILLA, Colombia, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Residents of Barranquilla, Colombia, cheered the return of a native daughter -- singer Shakira -- who gave a benefit concert, El Tiempo reported.

Fans of the Colombian pop diva unveiled a 6-ton statue of Shakira.

Proceeds from the concert were to go toward construction of an art school for children displaced by the country's ongoing civil war.

Colombia's left-wing rebel groups have been battling the Colombian government for more than four decades.
