NEW YORK, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- New and veteran stars of Broadway's longest running musical revival, "Chicago," took the stage for a razzle-dazzle 10th anniversary performance.
The actresses who have played the various Roxie Harts, such as Ann Reinking, Brooke Shields, Ashlee Simpson and Rita Wilson, appeared Tuesday night along with other cast members, including Chita Rivera, Marilu Henner, Bebe Neuwirth and Melanie Griffith. Each played bits and pieces of all the major roles in the show.
It was all for a good cause, the New York Daily News said Wednesday. By the time the marathon production was finished, more than $1.2 million had been raised for Safe Horizon, a national organization that helps guide some 350,000 victims a year through the often-daunting criminal justice system.
The original version of "Chicago" opened back in 1975 but ran for only a year or so before returning for good in 1996.
