LOS ANGELES, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Romanian villagers are threatening to sue "Borat" distributor 20th Century Fox and its star, Sacha Baron Cohen, over their portrayal in the U.S. film.
The villagers from the small Romanian mountain town of Glod had portrayed Kazakhstan citizens in the popular comedy, but are now threatening to sue over allegedly being misinformed about the nature of the film, said E! Online.
The film extras have claimed they were misled into thinking the filming was for an actual documentary highlighting their village's poverty level and not for the backdrop of a spoof documentary like "Borat."
"We endured it because we are poor and badly needed the money, but now we realize we were cheated and taken advantage of in the worst way," claimed Glod resident Gheorge Luca. "They said we drink horse urine and sleep
with our own kin. You say it's comedy, but how can someone laugh at that?"
E! Online said after two weeks in U.S. theaters, "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan" has grossed an impressive $67.1 million and made the film a target for criticism and other lawsuits.
