NEW YORK, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Rapper DMX is selling his brownstone in New York's Harlem for $1.9 million, saying he does not use the space, reported Allhiphop.com.
DMX (born Earl Simmons) reportedly bought the brownstone in 2001 for $750,000 cash during what was considered the "Harlem Brownstone Revival." The home has remained empty.
DMX told sources he had paid a contractor $300,000 to obtain a new certificate of occupancy, but the work was never completed.
In 2002, a building inspector alerted authorities upon realizing construction was being done without a permit, the report said. When DMX did not show up for court regarding the construction, he was fined $2,500.
Allhiphop reported that DMX was later sued for $210,000 by an electrician who fell off a ladder while working on the home. The rapper again failed to show up for court.
A burst pipe in the winter of 2003 reportedly caused extensive damage to the building. The Workers Compensation Board and the IRS have both placed liens on the property. The IRS lien is for DMX's failure to pay taxes, Allhiphop reported.
Trisha Lum, DMX's manager, said the financial misunderstandings had been due to changes in the rapper's record label staff.
