ATLANTA, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Rapper's T.I. and Grandmaster Flash were the big winners at BET's first Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta.
T.I. took home three of the eight awards that he was nominated for, including Best Hip Hop Video, Best CD and MVP of the Year, said a news release from BET.
"You can't hate on hard work and talent. This awards show will show people a lot about where I come from," said T.I.
The I Am Hip-Hop Icon award went to Grandmaster Flash for his contribution to the hip-hop scene.
"To get an award for my technological ability means a whole lot more than anything else I've accomplished in my life," he said.
The awards show will air Wednesday on BET.
It was kicked off with a performance of "Welcome to Atlanta," by Ludacris, Young Jeezy, Lil' Jon and Jermaine Dupri, who said afterward, "For the awards to be in my city and I win something for producing, it's exciting. The outcome was something I could never imagine."
