'The Producers' shortened for Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Catering to the tastes of tourists, the 2007 Las Vegas production of Mel Brooks' "The Producers" has been cut to one act running just 90 minutes.

Playbill reported that the trimming of the production was due to a consensus that Vegas audiences may be distracted by gaming, and are sometimes less willing to put time and money into a show.

The production -- scheduled to open in January at the Paris Las Vegas -- stars Brad Oscar and David Hasselhoff. No announcement has been made as to what will be cut from full-length version of the show, which won a record 12 Tony Awards.

Previously, Vegas productions of "Avenue Q" and "Hairspray" were also cut for time.
