CARDIFF, Wales, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- The family of the late Welsh actor Richard Burton has finally commemorated the family burial plot in Wales by placing a new stone in black marble.

About 100 friends and family members attended a memorial service on a hillside cemetery in Pontrhydyfen Friday where the stone, etched in Welsh, was laid on the family grave site.

Hundreds of fans have made a pilgrimage to the tiny village where Burton's family is from, although Burton, who died at the age of 59 in 1984, is buried in a tiny enclave overlooking Lake Geneva in Switzerland, where he had made his home for many years.

Former wife Elizabeth Taylor has said she wishes to be buried alongside her former husband, who was Richard Walter Jenkins Jr. at birth, but that she wishes he were buried in Wales.

While there has been talk of disinterring and reburying Burton in his native village, his last surviving brother says he will not allow it. The Independent said Saturday that the brother, Graham Jenkins, pointed out that the actor was "buried in Switzerland for tax reasons and repatriation of the body could still have financial implications for his estate."
