PORTLAND, Maine, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Aging 1980s rockers Guns N' Roses refused to begin a gig in Portland, Maine, after officials wouldn't allow them to drink on stage.
The Web site TMZ.com reported Saturday that the hard-rock band decided to cancel the performance this week due to a state law banning their beer, wine and Jagermeister shots from the stage; Jagermeister is a strong 70-proof liqueur flavored with 56 herbs.
According to TMZ.com, a band rep said "it would have been impossible for the band to perform their show to the usual high standards that their fans deserve."
The band gained fame when their 1987 release "Appetite for Destruction" earned them worldwide record sales. Their early success from 1987 through 1993 was soon torpedoed by conflicting personalities and alcohol and drug abuse.
Today, singer Axl Rose is the only original member in the band.
