Tharp's 'Times' meets with swift end

NEW YORK, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Twyla Tharp's Broadway rendition of the musical "The Times They Are A-Changin'" has closed its doors after 28 performances.

A circus-themed production built on songs by Bob Dylan, "Times" will end its Broadway run at the Rialto on Nov. 19 after only beginning performances on Oct. 26, said Daily Variety.

A similar production from Tharp had previously met with a similar short-lived existence when a San Diego rendition ended earlier this year.

Just as the case was in its California rendition, the Broadway version of "Times" has been met with less-than-positive critic reviews despite Tharp's sterling reputation in the stage community.

Tharp had previously met with success on Broadway with the 2002 musical "Movin' Out," that was itself based on songs by Billy Joel.

Daily Variety reported that the vacancy at the Rialto will likely be filled by the musical "A Moon for the Misbegotten," which is currently enjoying a successful London run.
