LOS ANGELES, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Rapper Kevin Federline has promptly responded to Britney Spears' petition for divorce by filing for solo custody of their children in Los Angeles.

Federline's petition, made in Los Angeles Superior Court, asks that the 28-year-old rapper garner sole custody of the couple's 13-month-old son, Preston, and Jayden James, 8 weeks, said People magazine.

"Kevin is prepared to go the distance in order to do what he feels is necessary to protect and safeguard the children and will not be intimidated or dissuaded from pursuit of those goals," said a statement from Federline's lawyer, Mark Kaplan.

The court petition comes directly on the heels of Spears' petition for divorce Tuesday in which she too asked for sole custody for the two children she had with Federline.

People said that as part of Wednesday's court claim, Federline has also asked that Spears pay his legal costs and spousal support, while only being allowed child visitation rights.
