Smashing Pumpkins front man back on stage

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan came out of the woodwork to play a few songs at a multi-act show featuring Pete Townshend in Los Angeles.

Corgan played later in the evening Tuesday at the Hotel Cafe, tuning his guitar frequently and playing four untitled new songs, NME.com reported.

Corgan and band mate Jimmy Chamberlin, who are working on what will be their first album in seven years, watched performances by Townshend, E from Eels, Minnie Driver, Pete's brother Simon Townshend, and Pete Townshend's girlfriend and songwriting partner Rachel Fuller, who organized the show.

Fuller admitted to NME.com that she thought Corgan looked "nervous" since he hadn't played in front of a crowd for some time.

The Nov. 7 show was a part of Fuller's "In the Attic" series, which has featured performances by The Flaming Lips, Razorlight and The Zutons.
