Roman Coliseum to host Genesis reunion

ROME, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- The upcoming Genesis reunion tour that begins in London next week has added a concert date at Rome's famed Coliseum to its schedule.

The solo Italian date for the reformed British band, sans singer Peter Gabriel, is scheduled for July 2007 and rumors that Gabriel may rejoin the band at the Roman landmark have begun to spread, Italy's ANSA news agency reported Friday.

If Gabriel decides to join drummer Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks at the Coliseum, it would mark the first time the entire group has reunited since a one-night concert in 1982.

While Gabriel officially left the band in 1975, Genesis had continued to thrive selling a total of 130 million albums worldwide from the 1960s to today.

The 56-year-old Gabriel had hinted in recent interviews that the prospects of his joining the band's reunion tour for a show were bright, and ANSA said that the Rome date could be the ideal situation.
