HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Warner Bros. signed U.S. director Bryan Singer to produce and direct the tentative next installment in the cinematic adventures of Superman.
Daily Variety said Monday that although there is no title, script or budget just yet, the film has been penciled in for release in the summer of 2009.
Singer directed this year's "Superman Returns" as well as "X-Men" and "The Usual Suspects."
"Superman Returns" grossed more than $390 million worldwide, but the payoff was less pronounced in the United States and Variety says Hollywood insiders are convinced the next film will have a tight lid on the budget.
Variety said Legendary Pictures was expected to partner with Warners in the financing of the 2009 flick.
