"Wicked," based on Gregory Maguire's novel, tells the story of the witches of Oz in the years before Dorothy dropped in. The girls meet at a sorcery school and have a turbulent relationship before they go their separate ways.

With a score by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, "Wicked" opened in 2003 and went on to become an unprecedented stage hit, Playbill said.

Houdyshell has appeared in the United State in productions including "Much Ado About Nothing," "Fighting Words" and "The Pain and the Itch," for which she won a Jefferson Award. Houdyshell's film credits include "Garden State," "Changing Lanes" and "Maid in Manhattan," and she has appeared on the TV crime drama "Law & Order."
