DreamWorks to adapt 'Blood and Thunder'

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- A second book from Tennessee author Hampton Sides is to become a motion picture after DreamWorks studio acquired the rights to his novel, "Blood and Thunder."

The writer, whose novel "Ghost Soldiers" was adapted by Mirimax into the film "The Great Raid," has sold the film rights of his newest epic work to DreamWorks so it too may undergo a cinematic transformation, said Daily Variety.

"Blood and Thunder" focuses on 19th century mountain man Kit Carson, who despite being married to two American Indian women fought bloody battles against area tribes.

At one point during its cinematic development, Sides' "Ghost Soldiers" was said to have garnered the attention of both actor Tom Cruise and famed director Steven Spielberg before eventually being taken in a different direction.

Daily Variety said that to date no writers or producers have been linked to DreamWorks' production of "Blood and Thunder."
