DALLAS, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- More than 19 months after leaving as anchor of CBS' "Evening News," Dan Rather is set to return to the U.S. news scene on the HDNet TV channel.
The 74-year-old journalist and the high-definition channel will launch "Dan Rather Reports" Nov. 14, and Rather says he is very excited about his new anchor duties, the New York Daily News reported.
"I'm as happy as I've been since maybe the day I was first able to make a living in journalism, which has been over 55 years ago, and since the first day I walked the halls of CBS News," said Rather.
Despite his decades of experience reporting the news, Rather says he understands that the process of launching his new series on HDNet -- which was created by Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban -- could prove daunting.
"What I believe, what I have great confidence in with the viewers, is that they will understand it may take a while for this to build," the veteran news anchor told the Daily News. "What's imperative is to demonstrate in the first two or three programs what we aspire to be."
