'View' co-hosts defend S.E. Cupp over Hustler photo
NEW YORK, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Journalist Jane Pauley filed a lawsuit Tuesday in U.S. District Court against the New York Times alleging the paper duped her into an advertising scheme.
The 55-year-old former "NBC Nightly News" anchor, who suffers from bipolar disorder, has claimed in the lawsuit that the newspaper tricked her into an interview she believed was for an article on mental health issues. Thesmokinggun.com Web site reported Pauley's comments were used as part of an advertising campaign for a drug supplement.
Pauley has worked with several mental health groups since she revealed her own disorder in 2004, and she claimed the paper completely misled her in terms of the October 2005 "special advertising supplement."
The published article ultimately promoted psychotherapeutic drugs sold by pharmaceutical companies such as Eli Lilly, which was not something Pauley said she agreed to do.
Pauley is seeking unspecified damages from DeWitt Publishing, which assisted in the article, and from the newspaper, the report said.
