Two horses killed in 'Flicka' accidents

VENTURA, Calif., Oct. 24 (UPI) -- An investigation ordered by the American Humane Association has found that two horses who died on the set of the film "Flicka" were the victims of accidents.

The independent investigation ruled that while the family drama was being filmed in 2005, both horses were killed in freak accidents and that film execs had been following all proper procedures in relation to using live animals, said CBS News.

"In neither instance did the filmmakers or the animal trainers fail to comply with American Humane's Guidelines for the Safe Use of Animals in Filmed Media," said a statement on the AHA Web site.

The investigation found that one of the horses had tripped on a rope and broke its neck, while the other animal suffered a fractured tibia while filming a running scene for the film.

The film, which is based on Mary O'Hara's novel "My Friend Flicka," stars country music singer Tim McGraw and actress Alison Lohman.

CBS News said that the film's distributor, 20th Century Fox, had no comment regarding the matter.
