African singing star Mathosa dies in wreck

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- African singing star Lebo Mathosa was killed Monday in traffic accident near Johannesburg, South Africa, her manager announced.

Mathosa, who went solo after gaining fame in the 1990s with the group Boom Shaka, was a passenger in a car that rolled over on the N3 highway in Germiston for reasons that were still under investigation Monday.

The African Mail and Guardian Online reported police have not ruled out charges of culpable homicide against the driver, who suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The 29-year-old Mathosa had released two solo albums since leaving Boom Shaka, and had performed around the world, including Nelson Mandela's 85th birthday celebration. The Mail and Guardian said her electrifying live shows were famous around the world, and she was considered "one of Africa's sexiest women."

Keith Urban cancels CMA appearance

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Country singer Keith Urban will not appear at the Country Music Association awards on Nov. 6th due to his being in a rehabilitation center.

This is also not the singers first time in rehab, he tells about his past drug addiction in his song "You're Not My God," the Louisville Courier-Journal reported.

"I deeply regret the hurt this has caused Nicole and the ones that love and support me," Urban said in People magazine.

He was referring to his wife of four months, actress Nicole Kidman.

Urban also released a statement when he checked himself into the rehab center which said, "With the strength and unwavering support I am blessed to have from my wife, family and friends, I am determined and resolved to a positive outcome."

Urban has been nominated for CMA awards for entertainer of the year, male vocalist of the year, singer of the year and song of the year.


Jennifer Aniston on Broadway

NEW YORK, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Jennifer Aniston is set to make her Broadway debut in "The 6th Annual 24 Hour Plays on Broadway."

She will be joined by Julianna Margulies, Liev Schreiber, Nia Vardalos, Rosie Perez, David Cross, Sam Rockwell, Erika Christensen as well as others in the one-night-only benefit, the New York Post reported Monday.

The show, at the American Airlines Theatre in New York, is a benefit for the Working Playground, a nonprofit cultural organization that supports arts programs in New York City public schools.

The actors performing in six 10-minute plays will only have one day to prepare themselves for the stage.

The previous 24 Hour Plays show that the results will probably be wildly uneven, with some doing well and others not.


Terry Jones doing well after surgery

LONDON, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Actor Terry Jones, formerly of the "Monty Python" group, has undergone surgery for colon cancer and is doing well, his agent said.

The 64-year-old star was "in good spirits and the operation went very well", said agent Jodi Shields told the BBC Monday.

Jones also recently joined former "Monty Python" colleagues Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam and Michael Palin for the London debut of the musical "Spamalot."

Jones directed the three "Monty Python films" as well as "The Wind in the Willows."

"Terry's doctors are very cheered with an early diagnosis of possible colon cancer for which he has now had routine surgery in a London private hospital," said Shields in the BBC report.
