LOS ANGELES, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- U.S. actor T.R. Knight, who plays Dr. George O'Malley on ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," has confirmed he is gay.

"I guess there have been a few questions about my sexuality, and I'd like to quiet any unnecessary rumors that may be out there," Knight told People Magazine exclusively. "While I prefer to keep my personal life private, I hope the fact that I'm gay isn't the most interesting part of me."

Knight began his career as a Minneapolis native in the city's famed Guthrie Theater.

The actor has also appeared on "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."
