NASHVILLE, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Country singer George Jones fractured his right wristin Nashville Friday and has canceled three performances this weekend.
The 75-year-old singer was going into his producer Keith Stegall's studio to sing a part on a new record by his daughter, Georgette Jones, when he fell backwards "down a couple of stairs" onto a cement walkway and broke his fall with his right hand, a publicist said in a news release.
Jones canceled his Friday night show in Murray, Ky., as well as a Saturday concert in Cumming, Ga., and a Sunday appearance at the Columbia, S.C., State Fair.
Jones was rushed to Nashville's Baptist Hospital after the accident, and it was later determined that he would undergo surgery Monday to make sure his fractured wrist heals properly.
The news release said Jones had scheduled some time off already, prior to launching a 12-city U.S. tour on Halloween night at New York's Carnegie Hall. Jones' newest CD -- a collection of duets with Merle Haggard -- is due in stories next Tuesday.
