DETROIT, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Detroit's best-known rock star will be throwing the first (musical) pitch of the World Series on Saturday.

Veteran rocker and Motor City native Bob Seger will perform "America the Beautiful" before Game 1 of the series, with the Detroit Tigers playing the St. Louis Cardinals in a rematch of the 1968 championship.

"Who wouldn't do it?" Seger said of the opportunity -- and making no secret where his loyalties lie. "The Tigers have just captivated the city. I'm caught up in it, too. Every time I get a chance I watch 'em play.

"The way they're going, I wouldn't be surprised if its the Tigers (winning) in five (games)."

Seger kicks off a concert tour Nov. 8 in Grand Rapids, Mich. to promote "Face the Promise," his first album of all-new material in 11 years.
