CBS' 'Blackpool' to join Jackman, Lowry

NEW YORK, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Actor Hugh Jackman and Bob Lowry, the creative force behind Showtime's "Huff," are set to work together to produce the U.S. series "Viva Blackpool" for CBS.

The drama, based on a BBC miniseries of the same name, was purchased by CBS after a fierce bidding war with two rival networks. CBS gave the project a firm seven-figure pilot commitment, The Hollywood Reporter said.

"Viva Blackpool" focuses on casino owner Ripley Holden, who longs for his own Las Vegas hotel but becomes embroiled in a murder mystery.

The Reporter said cast members in the BBC Worldwide Prods. and Sony Pictures TV production will spontaneously erupt into song-and-dance numbers in each episode.
