Ashlee Simpson joins cast of 'Chicago'

NEW YORK, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Singer Ashlee Simpson, playing Roxie Hart in "Chicago" in her London debut, also is the newest star to sign up for the gala New York performance of the musical.

Playbill reported on the roster of stars slated for the 10th anniversary gala performance of the Kander and Ebb musical.

In this one-night only event Nov. 14, Tony-winning director Walter Bobbie will helm as the stars present "Chicago" in its entirety.

Other stars to be performing include Alan Thicke, Brooke Shields, Wayne Brady and Melanie Griffith.

The performance, as well as the gala afterwards, will benefit Safe Horizon, "a victim assistance agency that provides support, prevents violence and promotes justice for victims of crime and abuse, their families and their communities," the report said.

"Chicago" will be performed at the Ambassador Theatre in New York.
