CHARLESTON, S.C., Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Comedian Chris Rock's mother, Rose Rock, says she and her daughter were refused service at a South Carolina Cracker Barrel restaurant because they are black.
The Rock family matriarch and New York activist, the Rev. Al Sharpton, will be at the Charleston, S.C., restaurant Wednesday to announce a lawsuit against the nationwide chain for discrimination against African Americans, ABC News reported Tuesday.
A spokeswoman for Rock told ABC News the South Carolina Human Rights Commission and Cracker Barrel management ignored complaints she leveled against the Charleston eatery in May.
ABC News said the chain based in Lebanon, Tenn., settled a discrimination suit in 2004 alleging racial segregation and resolved another suit that accused its Illinois restaurants of sex bias and racial harassment.
