LONDON, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- A star of the long-running British science fiction TV show "Doctor Who" says he wants to become a father with his long-term companion.

John Barrowman, 39, who plays bisexual Capt. Jack Harkness in the series, plans to tie the knot with Scott Gill in December and adopt a child afterward, London's Daily Mirror reports.

"We are talking about whether we have our own children or do we adopt," Barrowman says. "We've thought about adopting an older child, maybe a pre-teen. There are so many kids out there who need a good home."

Barrowman also stars in "Dr. Who" spinoff "Torchwood," which is set in modern-day Britain and investigating alien activities and crime.
