Singer Hill knocked out at Apollo Theater

NEW YORK, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- R&B singer Clarence Hill was knocked unconscious by falling debris before a performance at New York's famed Apollo Theater earlier this month, a report said.

The 44-year-old singer and his twin, Clyde Hill, were awaiting their turn during an Oct. 4 amateur night competition when a falling quarter-inch thick piece of plaster struck him in the head effectively knocking him out for 10 minutes, the New York Post said.

While the Harlem landmark's Amateur Night is set to continue this Wednesday, the injured Hill will be absent and is reportedly set to file suit against the theater for causing him to experience symptoms including double vision and memory lapses.

The Apollo, which is under going a $65 million renovation, claimed the accident was an isolated incident and stated it had no plans to renovate the ceiling.

"They said they did some renovations, but they didn't fix what was obviously an open hazard," Hill's lawyer, Michael Lamonsoff, told the newspaper.
