VATICAN CITY, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- For the first time in the Vatican's history, a pope's life will be made into a cartoon with the upcoming film, "John Paul II -- The Friend of All Humanity."

The cartoon, which runs just over an hour in length, focuses on Pope John Paul II's journey from his humble life in Poland to becoming one of the world's most esteemed religious leaders, The Daily Mail reported Sunday.

The film was directed by producer Jose Luis Lopez-Guardia for the Barcelona, Spain, firm Calvin Cooper and has been dubbed into seven languages for its release later this week.

"It is a fascinating story that works well as a cartoon," Lopez-Guardia told the Daily Mail, adding that the Vatican has offered the production its "full backing."
