Live Nation is denying reports that they would change the name of the venerable theater where Jackie Gleason filmed his television variety show between 1966 and 1970, the Miami Herald said.
The Herald reported that Live Nation, the top U.S. concert promoter, said they would rename the South Beach venue "The Fillmore Miami Beach at the Incredible Jackie Gleason Theater" in an effort to put a more modern spin on the venue.
The city, which stands to receive a share of revenues, would still have to sign off on any change to the name. Live Nation wants to use the Fillmore name made famous in the 1960s by the Grateful Dead and rock promoter Bill Graham. They currently run the theater in San Francisco and also another one in Denver.
