Barkin baubles net $20 million at auction

NEW YORK, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- The New York jewelry auction stemming from actress Ellen Barkin's messy divorce has fetched a tidy $20 million.

More than 100 pieces were put on the block at Christie's, attracting a lot of buzz and about $5 million more than the expected selling price.

Barkin sold the collection in the midst of her pending divorce from Revlon mogul Ron Perelman. It was part of an overall auction that netted nearly $50 million.

E! Online said three of Barkin's pieces went for more than $1 million each while her wedding band sold for $156,000.

The jewelry industry Web site Rapaport said Thursday that buyers were most aggressive in chasing the large, high-quality diamonds. A 51-carat rectangular ring was the top prize of the auction at $3.1 million.
