African baby may claim Madonna as mom

LILONGWE, Malawi, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- A 32-year-old Malawi man is quoted in British newspapers Wednesday saying his 1-year-old son has been adopted by a "famous U.S. musician."

Since Madonna is apparently the only famous musician known to be visiting orphanages in the African nation, it makes sense she is the one taking little David Banda home with her.

Yohane Banda, 32, told the Sun and Daily Mail he was "very happy" his motherless son is escaping an impoverished existence in Malawi. The baby's mother died shortly after his birth and the father, unable to care for him, sent him to the Home of Hope Orphan Care Center in Mchinji, E! Online reported.

"I know he will be very happy in America," Banda said. "We are told David will be coming back regularly to his roots."

Madonna has not commented on reports she would be adding a third child to the family she has made with British filmmaker Guy Ritchie, E! Online noted. However, her representatives who earlier outright denied an adoption was in the works, had changed their tune somewhat Wednesday saying an official statement would be made within 48 hours.
