ST. PAUL, Minn., Oct. 7 (UPI) -- A new play about the life of the late U.S. Sen. Paul Wellstone is set to open in his home state of Minnesota.
The production of "Wellstone!" by the History Theatre in St. Paul has drawn some flak over the timing of opening night just weeks before the midterm elections.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press said Saturday there have been threats to cancel season tickets, but the president of the theater's board, John Apitz, said he hoped patrons of all political stripes would attend.
Apitz is a friend of Sen. Norm Coleman R-Minn., who won the seat after Wellstone was killed in a plane crash during the 2002 campaign.
"Wellstone!" chronicles the senator's life from college through the fateful Senate vote on the Iraq invasion that took place a few weeks before he was killed.
