Barkin's bling set for New York auction

NEW YORK, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Some $15 million worth of jewels belonging to U.S. film actress Ellen Barkin are set to be auctioned in New York.

The baubles, which include rubies, sapphires and plenty of dazzling diamonds, are scheduled to be sold off Tuesday by Christie's as part of the actress's divorce from cosmetics mogul Ron Perelman.

The collection went on display Friday, the New York Daily News said, and drew a throng of viewers that included the curious and potential buyers.

While most were impressed with the stones, some critics called the collection "pedestrian and commercial" from an artistic point of view, the Daily News said.
