MALIBU, Calif., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- While recent rumors have claimed that Nicole Richie and Brody Jenner split up this week, the U.S. socialite denied the two had ever been a real couple.

TMZ.com reported that despite rumors that the duo, who are the children of singer Lionel Richie and Olympian Bruce Jenner, respectively, had been seeing each other romantically prior to their recent break-up, Richie has alleged they were only friends.

"I know there are rumors regarding my 'breakup' with Brody Jenner," Nicole Richie wrote on her MySpace blog this week. "The truth is, we were never really together ... my heart was never in it. Anything further is just a cry for publicity."

Us magazine said that despite Richie's online refutation of the relationship, a Richie representative recently said that the couple has stopped dating after two months.
