PARIS, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- German high-fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld isn't buying into fears that ultra-thin fashion models are unnatural and contributing to a rise in eating disorders.

Lagerfeld told reporters in Paris that the diminutive models striding the runways at this week's shows are naturally "skinny" with small bones and are not anorexic.

ABC News said Lagerfeld saw the anorexia controversy as a creation of the media, and argued that the rise in obesity in the west was a greater problem than fashion model frames.

ABC News also noted that other designers in Paris had similar responses with some noting that there are people who can eat a lot but not put on weight.
