LOS ANGELES, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Former Broadway star Isabel Bigley Barnett, who won a Tony award for her role in "Guys and Dolls," has died in Los Angeles at the age of 80.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Barnett, who was the last survivor of the famed Broadway production, died Saturday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from pulmonary disease.
"She was the ideal ingenue," Institute of the American Musical President Miles Kreuger said of the woman who portrayed Sarah Brown in the long-running musical. "She was pretty and had a beautiful voice and could act."
"I remember 'If I Were a Bell' -- she brought such delightful humor, a subtle humor, to the singing of the song ... It really was a thrilling moment in the theater," he added.
The paper said that Barnett, who became the first chairwoman of Palm Desert's McCallum Theatre in 2005, is survived by her husband, Lawrence R. Barnett, six children, 16 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
