LOS ANGELES, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- The Hollywood duo behind "Hustle & Flow," actor Terrence Howard and director Craig Brewer, are set to team up for a biopic of country icon Charley Pride's life.

Daily Variety reported both Howard and Brewer have signed on to the upcoming Paramount Pictures production, with the "Hustle & Flow" star taking on the musical role of the legendary country guitarist.

During his career in the U.S. music industry from 1966 to 1984, Pride scored 51 top-10 hits on the country charts and helped expand the civil rights movement despite his main audience being Caucasian.

"When Jackie Robinson broke the barrier, there was a flood of talent that came after him, but Charley was alone," Howard said of the former Negro League baseball player.

The newspaper said that production on the film, which Howard is set to executive produce as well, is set to begin once Brewer concludes his directorial work on another Paramount work, the country drama "Maggie Lynn."
