NEW YORK, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- When the 7th Annual Latin Grammy Awards ceremony begins next month in New York pop singer Shakira will have the most chances at an award.

The Columbian singer has been nominated in five categories for the Nov. 2 ceremony at Madison Square Garden including Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year. Shakira will also have a chance at winning awards for Best Short Form Music Video and Best Female Pop Vocal Album.

Close behind Shakira with four nominations each are lesser-known artists Gustavo Cerati, Ricardo Arjona and Julieta Venegas, all of whom Latin Recording Academy President Gabriel Abaroa said represent the event's wide scope of music.

"This year's nominations truly reflect a dynamic and vibrant community of music makers that includes artists, producers, engineers, songwriters and everyone involved in the creative process," Abaroa said. "In our seventh year, the spotlight continues to shine not only on established performers but on emerging and longstanding creative professionals who usually remain behind the scenes."

The event will be broadcast on both Univision Radio and Univision Online.
