LOS ANGELES, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Bravo's "Project Greenlight" helped the Maloof brothers gain fame as executive Producers when the film, "Feast" was released.
"Feast" opened this weekend in advance of its pre-Halloween DVD release, in a limited theatrical debut, The Los Angeles Times reported.
The new movie revolving around flesh-eating monsters was the outcome of the Bravo TV series "Project Greenlight," in which aspiring screenwriters and directors make films with the help of producers Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
In the show's latest season, filmmaker John Gulager worked to bring his monster movie to the big screen, with horror legend Wes Craven even showing up as a producer. But as the movie was being made they ran out of money, which is where the Maloofs entered the scene, the Times said.
"We were like the white knights," said Phil Maloof, 39. "They were short. And so we pitched in and gave them enough to finish the last week."
The Maloofs, who own Palms Hotel and Casino and two basketball teams, also set in motion their marketing machine to help the movie.
