Indian actress Padmini dead at 74

MADRAS, India, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Indian actress Padmini, who was a huge star in India in the past, has died of cardiac arrest at a corporate hospital in Madras. She was 74.

Padmini started dancing at 4 and found the film industry in 1949, going on to star opposite popular Indian actors, including M G Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan, Prem Nazir, Raj Kumar, Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand, Press Trust of India reported Monday.

She later married Dr K T Ramachandran, left for the United States and opened the Padmini School of Fine Arts in New Jersey.

Padmini is survived by a son, Anand, who lives in the United States.
