LOS ANGELES, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- The city attorney of Los Angeles has charged actor Lou Diamond Phillips with domestic battery for hitting his girlfriend during an argument last month.
Phillips was originally arrested on Aug. 11, after his girlfriend called the police on him after an argument turned physical, TMZ.com reported.
Documents filed Friday in Los Angeles County Superior Court said that Phillips "unlawfully used force and violence upon the person."
The punishment for his crime is a maximum of one year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
Phillips's arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 18.
