LOS ANGELES, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Actor Lou Diamond Phillips has been charged with domestic battery in connection with an incident last month that led to his arrest, TMZ.com reported.
The star of "Young Guns" and "La Bamba" was charged Thursday by the City Attorney of Los Angeles, TMZ said.
Phillips, 44, was arrested in Los Angeles Aug. 11 on suspicion of domestic violence, after police went to his home in response to a call. An LAPD spokeswoman told the Los Angeles Times at the time that officers concluded "that an argument escalated to physical abuse."
Phillips, who played rocker Richie Valens in the 1987 film "La Bamba," was booked on suspicion of co-habitant abuse, police said.
TMZ said documents filed Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court say Phillips "unlawfully used force and violence upon the person."
Phillips has been out on $50,000 bail since the incident. The charge carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a $2,000 dollar fine, TMZ said.
Phillips is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 18.
