WASHINGTON, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- The charitable efforts of Run-D.M.C.'s Darryl "DMC" McDaniels are set to be honored at a Washington gala by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute.

AllHipHop.com reported that when the organization offers its annual National Angels in Adoption Gala Wednesday, those in attendance will honor the rapper for his efforts in helping foster children through the creation of the Felix Organization.

Along with casting director Sheila Jaffe, the 42-year-old former adoptee founded the organization in February with an aim towards assisting neglected and abandoned children.

"I was fortunate enough to be raised by parents who opened their hearts and home to me," said the rapper. "But in reality, there are so many kids out there that don't have that. I want to help as many children as I can to become strong, independent, and successful adults."

The Web site said that in addition to honoring McDaniels at its ceremony this week, the coalition will also recognize Miami Dolphins quarterback Dante Culpepper for his philanthropic efforts towards foster children on welfare.
